Kendrick Lamar - Rigamortus

I haven't written in a minute about anything but I had to share a Kendrick Lamar song.

Rigamortus by user286361

His flow on this is crazy. oh man.

I'll be revamping this blog when I have time. Don't judge me. You don't know me. And if you know me, die early. If you don't know what that means, then you don't know me so... Get to know me. :-D

The NFL Lockout

Owners have sucked it up for long enough and the NFLPA has decided to no longer take part in the stalemate. The NFLPA has decided to let the current CBA expire tonight at midnight and allow the Player's Association to go through decretification (which is barely a real word). I figured out what it means by furiously searching the internet for better explanations. Basically, the NFLPA gives up its position as a player's union and individual players from the NFL are then allowed to sue the NFL for antitrust violations.

This is a sad day because this means we're a long way away from watching the NFL this September. :( And I love football... good thing college football is more dramatic than Bush's presidency.

The only good thing about these talks not working is that Commissioner Roger Goodell now has a salary of $1. Charlie Sheen would call that "Duh. Losing."

To find out more about the Decertification and break down of talks check these sites:

Charlie Sheen's Winning Recipes

I just applied to be Charlie Sheen's Social Media Intern because duh, that job sounds awesome. Charlie and I agree on a lot of very important things like how "All green things must die".

This guy doesn't need help. He just needs a venue to promote himself... and maybe to not let his kids see him do all of this. That being said, we are all casualties of this man's greatness.

Oh, illustrious University which granted me an overpriced degree, your students have done something outstanding... even due to your continuous draining of their bank accounts.

Lil Wayne ft. Cory Gunz - 6 Foot, 7 Foot (Video)

It's been a minute for me but I had to put everything to the side and post this one. Lil Wayne's "6 Foot, 7 Foot" video has arrived.

It's all over the place but I like it. Just like the song, it's well produced but his thoughts are scattered. I'm glad Wayne didn't try to make a video that made complete sense out of this. It does have an overarching 'Inception' theme, possibly to allow the nonsensical thoughts more acceptable by having them be apart of Wayne's unconscious... whatever the case, just watch it.

Everybody Know That Justin Bieber is My Cousin

Duh Based God, we all obviously knew that.

Lil B The Based God for your listening pleasure... or not. Depends. I don't exactly love listening to Lil B for his lyrical content but I do like his music. For my friends who may read this, this is a new development. I feel as if I can just chill and listen to his music and dance and act a fool. It's relaxing to put him on a playlist with Wiz, J. Cole, Joell and other lyric heavy rappers. Because as much as I love being a Colored Scholar, sometimes we need to put the books down and do the Lil B Cooking Dance, "yaknawhaimean"?

Swag! Swag! Swag!

Social Media Week in New York City

Somehow the social (media) butterfly that I am has managed to not notice that this week is Social Media Week in New York. Yes, I am ashamed but to make up for my incompetence, I'll share the schedule with you, whoever you are that may be reading my blog. Check out the schedule by clicking here and if you're feeling extra social media-y, you can tweet this post below so others can be as informed as you. Pass it forward, brethren, pass it forward.

The Only Post I Will Ever Write about Glee

So listen, I've watched one Glee episode up until last night. I don't really have a strong opinion about the show at all. But last night, like myself millions of unsuspecting football aficionados who were too full on chips and salsa to find the remote, watched at least some portion of Glee last night. I, returning from a friends apartment to my own, turn on my television to see if they were still celebrating Green Bay's Super Bowl victory on the field, only to find Glee on. I continued to watch because there was drama but was glad that I watched because there was this:

Watch it now and don't hate because you know that it's ill.

I'm not saying that I'm going to start watching Glee now buuuuuut that was kinda crazy. Well done teeny bopper show of our generation, well done.

The McBain Movie

Have you ever watch the Simpsons watch TV? If they were watching a movie, it was probably a McBain movie. McBain is something like their James Bond with a Lethal Weapon feel, since he's a cop. Someone took the time to put together some McBain clips that form into an actually story line. Those Simpson creators are genius.

There's a lot more blood than I ever remember from the Simpsons buuuuut I like it.

CyHi Da Prynce - Ring Bellz

CyHi put some Black History in this video from his last mixtape. It's ill.

CYHI DA PRYNCE -- RING BELLZ from Urban News Network on Vimeo.

To a Young, Black Man

[Sometimes I get my write on. Here is something I got on write on about today.]

Everybody wants to talk for a few weeks about black history

Rather they should talk about how our future lacks history

Black history shouldn’t only be celebrated but also demonstrated

Understand the system, break it down and then penetrate it

Take what you’ve learned, yearn to earn more

Than playing every other night on David Stern’s floor

Your turn doesn’t get skipped, this aint no board game

Your time is wasted if you don’t set yourself some goals or aim

For the highest you can reach

Because you may be the biggest fish in the sea but remember that sometimes whales do get beached

I'm not a pastor so you don’t have to listen

I just hope you hear this, clear your mind because you already have the vision

Of what you can do to contribute

To society, knowing that it will forever serve as a tribute

Because the past shouldn't be forgotten

Let it make you stronger; remember we come from a people who use to only pick cotton

But don’t lie to me if you don’t give an f

I just hope you find your own way eventually and that you manage to live it best

Basically, I'm asking you to not just have a one track plan

And allow yourself to be great young, black man

Perf's Top Mixtapes of 2010 (Part 2 of 3)

No need to explain this again. If you need explanation, go to the original post.

The Top 10

#10
Yelawolf - Trunk Muzik

Yelawolf had a good year in 2010. He was on Big Boi's "You Ain't no DJ" and of the BET Award Ciphers, the reason I at least watch the show. This mixtape not only set him apart as a great rapper but as not your average Eminem-like (not to say Em is average, cuz no, he's not) white rapper (basically no one is gonna be Asher Rothing him)... though Em did sign him to Shady records. White rappers, man, white rappers.
Check Out: "Good to Go" ft. Bun B

#9
B.o.B - No Genre

Bobby Ray probably had a better year than most people. As he went from extra ATL local to top of the world, performing with other famous people besides T.I. The tape's title speaks for itself. He can rap his ass off, sing you a love song or produce any type of track. He's a real producer; you can tell from the high level of his collabos. You never wonder why he chose to have someone on a song... it just makes sense.
Check Out: "Higher" ft. Playboy Tre, CyHi Da Prynce & Bun B

#8
T.I. - F**k A Mixtape

What harsh words, T.I.P.! B.o.B's boss falls barely before him. Honestly, this mixtape is much more like an album than anything. With great appearances from Lil Wayne, Jeezy and the like. You probably would have heard more about it if T.I. wasn't in jail for most of last year but yeah... that's not how it worked out. You may be bumping to it for a minute.
Check Out: "Yeah" ft. Lil Wayne

#7
Big Sean - Finally Famous 3

There was a 3 month period when I hoped for a new Big Sean song every Friday; Kanye's G.O.O.D. Fridays. Unfortunately Big Sean was not on every song but he showed up on every track he was able to bless. Including the track with the last second J. Cole addition, that Big Sean also ripped... people seem to get too caught up in J. Cole's amazing verse and belittle Big Sean's lessons in murktology (don't look that word up, it's an original). He's slept on but at least Kanye knows that he's sitting on a jackpot.
Check Out: "Supa Dupa Lemondae" Freestyle

#6
Wiz Khalifa - Kush & OJ

Datpiff.com had his mixtape at #1 but I couldn't. Wiz will only get better though, you can tell; probably because the people around him are gonna make him start smoking a little bit less. He's great lyrically and has an ill flow. He stayed releasing mixtapes all year which was great but it also confused me to which ones to actually listen to as I found out about him late. I predict a very long career for young Khalifa.
Check Out: "Never Been" (this is the actually video and it's definitely NSFW.. found out the hard way by thiiiiis guuuuy)

The Top 5 will be around shortly. Enjoy these until then!

Extra Ill: L.A.

L.A. is fairly new to rapping but she's been writing forever... and you can tell. Even if you don't enjoy Hip Hop, you'll love her music for it's passion.

Last Friday she released her first mixtape entitled "The Presentation". It's a complete project that is best listened to from the beginning to the end. She uses a few Kanye samples from some of his earlier projects which fit perfectly with the I-put-my-soul-into-this-song vibe you feel throughout the tape. To give you a preview of a few of the tracks and to exhibit her stage presence, she made a mini movie to go along with the release of the mixtape.. yeah, I know, extra ill. You can download the mixtape by going to her blog, by clicking here. The movie is below:

Oh, and I went to school with her too. Niiiiiice (Fabolous voice). I just can't believe that I went to school with so many talented people. Check her out though for real though. You're welcome in advance.

Kevin Hart's Chocolate Drop

Kevin Hart is as funny and as relevant as any hilarious comedian these days. Whether he's doing a stand up routine, a viral video of him hosting P. Diddy's album release party while a video vixen-type's hair is caught on fire or creating a rapping alter ego, he remains on our minds. Speaking of rapping alter egos, here is the street DVD intro to the one and only Chocolate Drop.

Waka Flacka is Trying to Ruin Hip Hop, Actually

I finally have evidence! Waka Flacka is bad for you... at least, he's bad for your music.

This is a video that he has with an Oklahoma City artist named Privaledge. This cat seems to be sponsored by players on the Thunder or something; Kevin Durant, James Harden and two other easily forgettable players are in the studio with Waka and this other cat. The problem comes when Waka decides to give advice to the newer cat.

Yeah, Waka Flacka isn't exactly a Dr. Phil. And maybe I'd take advice from the guy about where to get braids or how to get a southern accent when you're from Philly but I refuse to ask his advice about anything musical! Never!

He drops knowledge with these few quotables: "Do 12, never do 16" telling his mentee to never do a complete conventional verse because the crowd doesn't want that (BUT WE DO, WAKA, BUT WE DO!) and "Lyricism is not working"... huh? Could have fooled me about that whole lyricism thing, Waka. Maybe you're right though... maybe I just want to hear you yell your name.

-_-

P.S. World Star Hip Hop is obviously back up. I'm on the wall about that news; this video is one of the reasons that I'm not ecstatic about it returning.

Dominican Spider-Man?!

Racial humor entices me.

This is not even that funny but the attempt to be funny and corny, makes it great... And the people across the street watching this being filmed who are so confused, also make this great.

In the name of Wyclef, watch this:

"All of the Lights" as Appreciated by White People

The Portland Cello Project covers Kanye West's "All of the Lights"... AND IT'S ILL. Just watch it, stop reading what I say. I am nothing but a conveyor.

If Kanye ever performs with them, the world would explode from amazing music inspired eargasms but at least we would all die happy.. and possibly before 2012. Booya, in your face Nostradamus! unh.

Aishwarya Rai and Robots

Two of my favorite things in the world actually. I mean, Aishwarya is bad and robots are cool. Great combo.

Check out these few scenes from the movie "Enthiran" ("Robot", how creative?!) that stars Aishwarya Rai. It's so cool.

I now have a new respect for robots.

Perf's Top Mixtapes of 2010 (Part 1 of 3)

I decided to do this because I love music and I, for the first time last year paid attention to the mixtape game for the majority of the year. I specifically appreciate lyricism in hip hop so that will show through many of my picks. I hope you can find a few that you enjoy in the list.

We'll start with Next Up (so people who are gonna probably be on this list next year) and Honorable Mentions

Next Up

Fred The Godson - Armageddon

Fred is lyrical and has the raspy voice reminiscent of Biggie... and the rotund size. When he raps, it sounds so easy. Pay attention to this dude. Check out his song "So Crazy (Remix)" ft. Waka Flacka and Cam'Ron.

Diggy Simmons - Airbone

Diggy is good. I guess it's in his blood as he is son of Run DMC rapper Rev Run and nephew Hip Hop Mogul Russell Simmons. He can only get better. He's one of those rich kid rappers; a new trend that seems to be starting. I mean, I don't care as long as the music is ill. Check out his song "Oh Yeah" ft. Lupe Fiasco and Pharrell.

-----

Honorable Mentions

Dead Prez - Revolutionary but Gangsta Grillz

It's good to just heard from this group after not hearing from them for so long. They hopped on DJ Drama's Gangsta Grillz series with the play on words from their last album's title; clever and ill, just like the mixtape. Check out their song "Malcolm, Garvey, Huey" ft. Divine, where they jacked Bank$' Beamer, Benz or Bentley beat.

Cassidy - Apply Pressure 2

Cassidy is lyrical and never ceases to be lyrical. He's just so consistent that he had to be here. The standout track on this tape though is his 8 minute freestyle called "Let Me Hear Something".

Wale - More About Nothing

I couldn't make a top 11 list because no one does that so Wale had to just miss the cut. This mixtape is great but I just thought that there were 10 others better, which is fine... especially since I have no pull in the world and Jay-Z isn't gonna read this and stop f**king with Wale because he's number 11 on some random ass dude's top mixtape list. Check out his song "The Breeze" ft. Wiz Khalifa.

The Top Ten List is coming soon! What What!

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

Vin Khalifa - Black and Guido

Vinny from MTV's Jersey Shore decides to do his thing to Wiz Khalifa's Black and Yellow. Mind you, this is a joke as stated in the video's info... however, no one can do wrong on this beat and I appreciate Vinny's effort. (Stole this from my home girl Nina!) Enjoy!

And btw, I love the Jersey Shore and if you don't, you're just lying to yourself. Stop fronting, it's not cute.

First Things First/ Snoop's "Wet" Video

A New Year. New promise and new hope.

Still the same me talking about the same BS that I normally talk about... music, sports, random news stories, why Tom Brady sucks* and things that you need to see. This Snoop Dogg video falls in that last category.

If you haven't heard yet Snoop is performing at Prince William's bachelor party. Snoop also said that he was gonna make the Prince an anthem... and supposedly this is it. I don't like the song too much but the video is hot fire because of the very attractive women featured in it. If Snoop Dogg can help the Prince make future little Prince's with his wife, than so be it. Don't call him Snoop, call him the modern day Marvin Gaye. I think that I'm a Rick James production myself...

You're welcome. Happy New Year.
